9th International Geostatistics Congress

Oslo, Norway, June 11th – 15th, 2012

The organizing committee invites you to submit abstracts for the Ninth International Geostatistics Congress. You can now register your abstract at www.geostats2012.no.
A 300 word abstract should be submitted before the deadline on June 1st 2011. If your abstract is accepted, you will be invited to submit a full paper or an extended abstract for presentation at the conference.
The International Geostatistics Congress is returning to Europe next year. This long tradition of collecting scientist working on geostatistics and spatial statistics every fourth year reaches back to Frascati, Italy in 1975. Since then, the Geostatisitics Congress has visited most continents: Tahoe, USA in 1983, Avignon, France in 1988, Tróia, Portugal in 1992, Wollongong, Australia in 1996, Cape Town, South Africa in 2000, Banff, Canada in 2004, and Santiago, Chile in 2008. Now, the turn has come to Oslo, Norway in 2012.
We hope for a wide range of contributions on the various aspects of geostatistics and spatial statistics. We look for abstracts on methodological challenges such as:
- Model building
- Model selection and validation
- Inference
- Simulation
- Prediction
- Classification
- Sampling design
- Data analysis
- Data presentation and visualization

We also welcome case-studies and advances within a wide range of areas including the traditional mining, petroleum and environment applications as well as new areas such as climate and life sciences. Here are some of the applications we hope to encounter on the congress:

Abstract authors will be contacted early in July 2011. Authors of accepted abstracts must either submit a first draft of a full paper by October 15th 2011, or alternatively, submit an expanded abstract by April 1st 2012. The full papers will be published in a proceedings book by Springer, while the expanded abstracts will only be available electronically. All submissions will be evaluated for publication in a special issue of Mathematical Geosciences. See the congress pages at www.geostats2012.no for all the details on dates and formats.

Oslo is at its best in June and we hope to make this event enjoyable in many ways. We are planning trips to Kongsberg Silver Mines and a geological trip on the Oslo Fjord.
