ImgImporter: Ast07 data import (ASTER based product)
ImgImporter is now open-source (read more).
Ast07 data is one of the products developed on
the basis of ASTER spectroradiometer source data (more
information about ASTER products data can be found here).
The data are atmospherically corrected ASTER
data of L1B processing level (radiance at-sensor). These products
correct the measured at-sensor radiance for the effects of atmospheric
transmission due to gaseous absorption and path radiance due
to molecular scattering using atmospheric profile information
from NOAA (NCEP) derived assimilation models. The results of
the atmospheric correction are only as good as he atmospheric
profiles which are used. (Later versions of this product will
use atmospheric temperature and water vapor profile information
derived from MODIS and aerosol scattering information from MISR,
sister instruments to ASTER on the TERRA platform when these
atmospheric profile products are validated.)
The program is designed for processing ASTER
HDF file to TIFF format conversion. The program operates in
the batch or single file mode: you need to define folder containing hdf files (File->Set source
folder) and the output directory for the resulting
TIFF format files (File->Set target folder).
Source file extension should be *.hdf0 Thus, in this version of ImgImporter only VNIR bands are imported
(visible and near infrared bands, 15м resolution).
The program generates 3 output file types:
- plain tiff;
- tiff with an accompanying twf file (ArcView
world file also supported by other software, ArcGIS, ERDAS,
etc);
- GeoTiff (special TIFF standard addition designed
for georeference information integration into the file itself;
has no external reference file).
ImgImporter georeferenced GeoTIFF can be easily
opened with ERDAS IMAGINE, ArcGIS and Arcview GIS software.
No additional steps for setting georeferencing is required (see
examples).

The main object of creating the program was to
solve the task of processing a considerable amount of HDF files
at once. When you press Start Conversion button
the program sequentially processes all files found in the *source
folder* directory. At that, the output picture will constitue
of three 256-bit channels of the initial one ("band1","band2","band3"),
broken down into the three RGB components. The picture itself
will be rotated by MAPORIENTATIONANGLE angle, obtained from
metadata. The data for geographical reference is obtained from
the core metadata also.
